A Bit About Me

Ylana Macayla James is the first of three children born to Al James and Landi Jackson-James. She was born on October 7, 2005, at Dekalb Medical Center in Decatur, Georgia. She has two younger sisters, Alexa and Leia, and a village who has also been present, ready to provide support throughout her life.

Ylana is currently a senior at Eleanor Roosevelt High School (ERHS)  in Greenbelt, Maryland, where she is enrolled in the Science and Technology magnet program; her current GPA is 4.23.  She is a member of the National Honor’s Society, Black Student Union, Future Healthcare Professionals and the Media Arts Production team for ERHS.  Ylana is also an intern at the University of Maryland’s Department of Kinesiology Laboratory.

Ylana plans to attend the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill in the Fall to study BioMedical Sciences.  When she completes her university education, Ylana plans to pursue the CEO seat at a hospital. Her goal is to be in a decision-making position at a hospital that will allow her to have positive impact on communities needing better healthcare. She also has a desire to influence the next generation by providing STEM instruction in the classroom.

Ylana enjoys dancing and singing. To relax she enjoys traveling, knitting, reading, and listening to music.

Her role models are Michelle Obama, Rihanna, and Roy D. Jackson, her grandfather.

Nothing in life is impossible, as long as you take the first step.

Donate to Ylana's Scholarship Fund

Senior year is finally here and graduation is right around the corner! All of my experiences have prepared me for my next stop – college!

Over the last four years, I’ve been empowered by my village to participate in National Honors Society, Student Council, the Debate team, and the ERHS Yearbook committee. I also completed service projects for my local community and served in the Hospitality, Pathfinders, Children's, Youth, and Music ministries at church. With your prayers and guidance, I’ve already accomplished so much and I’m excited about what I’ll be able to do next with your continued support.

Would you like to make a monetary contribution for my university/college expenses?
